High School Top 25: April 13
Menchville takes over, Sarasota continues hot streak
Staff Report
April 12, 2010
Seven of the top 10 teams in the Baseball America/National High School Baseball Coaches Association poll suffered losses in the last two weeks and took a hit in the latest rankings. After winning a tournament in Florida, Knoxville's Farragut High dropped a game in its home state, leaving the door open for Menchville High (Newport News, Va.) to slide into the No. 1 spot.
Sarasota (Fla.) High continues its assault on Florida schools, beating No. 24 Naples (Fla.) High for a second time and claiming the Sarasota Baseball Classic title. Bellaire (Texas) High took a significant hit after dropping a third game on a relatively weaker regular season schedule. Four new teams joined the rankings and Klein High of Spring, Texas vaulted to No. 9 after rising to the top of state polls.
Roswell (Ga.) High went 0-4 since the last poll was released and fell out of the Top 25. St. Edwards High (Lakewood, Ohio) just started its season and isn't quite in full form, dropping three of its first seven games.
The staffs of Baseball America and the NHSBCA compile the Top 25 rankings. In-season polls will be conducted every two weeks and released every other Tuesday throughout the season. Records indicated are as of March 28 and do not include ties.
