High School Top 25: March 31

Bellaire (Texas) High is the new No. 1

National tournaments have the tendency to expose weaknesses and Bishop Gorman High of Las Vegas was the latest victim. The preseason No. 1, the Gaels had narrowly hung on to the top spot after dropping their season opener in Nevada, but after going 2-2 at the Big League Dugout National Invitational, Bishop Gorman fell all the way to No. 11 in the new Baseball America/National High School Baseball Coaches Association Top 25.

Bellaire (Texas) High was lying in wait and snagged the top position after Bishop Gorman's losses. The Cardinals are 13-0 so far in Texas 5-A play and remain the top school in the state. Tampa's Jesuit High jumped 12 spots to No. 2 thanks to their 16-0 record. The team is hitting .412 while the pitching staff has an ERA of 1.71.

The staffs of Baseball America and the NHSBCA compile the Top 25 rankings. In-season polls will be conducted every two weeks and released every other Tuesday throughout the season. The final poll will be released June 9 and will expand to 50 teams. Records indicated are as of March 29 and do not include ties.
