TOP 30 PROSPECTS

1. David Price, lhp, Vanderbilt

No lefthander has gone No. 1 overall since Yankees chose Brien Taylor in 1991.

2. Matt Wieters, c, Georgia Tech

Switch-hitting catcher with power also has thrown 98 mph as a closer.

3. Andrew Brackman, rhp, North Carolina State

Seven-footer can touch 99 mph and has given up basketball to focus on baseball.

4. Matt Harvey, rhp, Fitch HS, Groton, Conn.

Scouts are divided on which North Carolina recruit is better, Harvey or Porcello.

5. Rick Porcello, rhp, Seton Hall Prep, West Orange, N.J.

Seton Hall prep teammate Evan Danieli also could go as high as supplemental first round.

6. Daniel Moskos, lhp, Clemson

Tigers use him in relief, but several pro teams believe he can succeed as a starter.

7. Joe Savery, lhp, Rice

If he's healthy after minor shoulder surgery last fall, he could push himself even higher on this list.

8. Michael Burgess, of, Hillsborough HS, Tampa

Best bat speed and power to come out of Hillsborough High since Gary Sheffield.

9. Julio Borbon, of, Tennessee

College version of Johnny Damon will miss 8-10 weeks after fracturing left ankle in practice.

10. Josh Vitters, 3b, Cypress (Calif.) HS

Best pure hitter in high school ranks starred at Area Code Games, World Wood Bat Championships.

11. Jake Arrieta, rhp, Texas Christian

First TCU player ever to make Team USA went 4-0, 0.27 for college national team last summer.

12. Jason Heyward, of, Henry County HS, McDonough, Ga.

Continues to draw Fred McGriff comparisons with his lanky frame, short stroke and big-time power.

13. Ross Detwiler, lhp, Missouri State

Should break Brett Sinkbeil's one-year-old record (No. 19, Marlins) as highest-drafted Bear ever.

14. Matt Mangini, 3b, Oklahoma State

Cape Cod league batting champ could have monster year after transferring to hitter-friendly Oklahoma State.

15. Blake Beavan, rhp, Irving (Texas) HS

BA's Youth Player of the Year threw 11-strikeout shutout to beat Cuban junior national team in Cuba.

16. J.P. Arencibia, c/1b, Tennessee

Tied A-Rod's record for career homers at Westminster Christian School (Miami), has 25 in two years of college.

17. Joshua Fields, rhp, Georgia

Slight closer can make a case for having both best fastball and best slider in college ranks.

18. Jack McGeary, lhp/1b, Roxbury Latin HS, West Roxbury, Mass.

Projectable lefty has a quality breaking ball and a lot of polish.

19. Madison Bumgarner, lhp, South Caldwell HS, Hudson, N.C.

Closing ground on McGeary as top high school southpaw available, but he's not as refined.

20. Cole St.Clair, lhp, Rice

Like Moskos, St. Clair is another lefty closer who has enough stuff to start in pro ball.

21. Nick Schmidt, lhp, Arkansas

Would rank higher if he didn't look so worn out last summer with Team USA.

22. Matt Dominguez, 3b, Chatsworth (Calif.) HS

Comparable to Vitters, with more athleticism but not quite as much pure hitting ability or power.

23. Michael Main, rhp/of, Deland (Fla.) HS

Has made more noise by hitting 97 mph with his fastball, but he's a five-tool athlete and could go as an outfielder.

24. Justin Jackson, ss, Roberson HS, Asheville, N.C.

Son of former big leaguer Chuck Jackson can go higher than this if he proves himself offensively.

25. Neil Ramirez, rhp, Kempsville (Va.) HS

Ranked as top prospect in Cal Ripken Sr. summer college league last summer.

26. Ryan Dent, ss/2b, Wilson HS, Long Beach

Speed and hitting ability make him top leadoff prospect among high school crop.

27. Todd Frazier, 3b, Rutgers

Awesome raw power but also questions as to how usable it will be against quality pitching.

28. Kentrail Davis, of, Theodore (Ala.) HS

Stood out as best hitting prospect, position player at East Coast Showcase last August.

29. Sean Doolittle, 1b/lhp, Virginia

Scouts are split on which they like more, his line-drive bat and slick fielding, or his polished lefty package on the mound.

30. Eric Eiland, of, Lamar HS, Houston

Best athlete to come out of Houston-area high schools since Devil Rays made Carl Crawford a second-rounder in 1999.
