College Top 25: March 19
Kentucky makes big jump into rankings
Staff Report
March 19, 2012
Florida continued its run at No. 1 in the Baseball America College Top 25 rankings after a midweek win against rival Florida State and a weekend series sweep of Vanderbilt, but another Southeastern Conference squad was the week's biggest story.
Kentucky remains the nation's lone unbeaten team, but the Wildcats were unranked until this week due to a soft early-season schedule. The Wildcats stayed undefeated by sweeping then-No. 3 South Carolina this weekend, propelling them into the rankings at No. 16.
South Carolina's fall shook up the top of the rankings for the first time this season, as the Gamecocks dropped five spots to No. 8. Arkansas slid up to No. 3, followed by North Carolina, Arizona and Florida State. UCLA also jumped up two spots to No. 7 after winning a series against Arizona State, which slid three spots to No. 14.
Along with Kentucky, Texas re-joined the rankings at No. 22. The Longhorns swept Big 12 Conference rival Oklahoma on the road over the weekend, knocking the Sooners out of the rankings in the process.
