Louisiana State entered the postseason ranked No. 1, then dominated the College World Series to win its sixth national championship and finish the season ranked No. 1 in the Baseball America Top 25 college baseball rankings.
LSU was ranked second in the preseason, and four of BA's top five preseason teams reached Omaha. North Carolina, the preseason No. 3 team, finished sixth, while preseason No. 4 Texas was the CWS runner-up and finished ranked second. Cal State Fullerton, which opened the year ranked fifth, finished fourth.
The other teams that reached Omaha finished fifth (Virginia), seventh (Arkansas) and 11th (Southern Mississippi) in the final rankings.
