College Top 25: June 2
UC Irvine's reign as No. 1 ends
Staff Report
June 2, 2009
UC Irvine was finally knocked off its six-week perch atop the Baseball America rankings, as the Anteaters lost twice to Virginia in the nation's toughest regional. Louisiana State assumed the No. 1 spot in the rankings.
After Irvine, the next seven teams in last week's rankings won their regionals. Overall, 13 of the top 16 teams in last week's rankings won regionals. Just two teams outside the rankings—Arkansas and Southern Mississippi—advanced to super regionals, and the Razorbacks and Golden Eagles each moved into the rankings at No. 16 and No. 19, respectively.
The staff of Baseball America determines the Top 25 rankings. Records indicated are through games of June 1 and do not include ties.
