DURHAM, N.C.—Texas won its Big 12-opening series against Missouri to retain its perch atop the Baseball America Top 25 rankings for the second week in a row.
Texas, North Carolina and Texas A&M held onto the top three spots in the rankings, but Cal State Fullerton jumped Louisiana State to move up to No. 4. The Titans went 7-1 on an eight-game road trip, posting a midweek win over No. 3 Texas A&M and then splitting two games with No. 19 Oklahoma State over the weekend. Rice also moved up two spots to No. 7 after winning a series over then-No. 20 San Diego.
Few teams made substantial jumps in the rankings since numerous weekend series around the country were shortened by bad weather. Miami moved up two spots after winning two of three against Duke, and Arkansas did likewise after sweeping its SEC-opening series against Florida.
teams moved into the rankings this week. Virginia pounded Florida State 15-2 on Friday to remain the nation's lone unbeaten team and debut in the rankings at No. 23. The rest of that series was lost to the weather. Alabama returned to the rankings at No. 24 after winning two of three against No. 8 Georgia. Finally, Minnesota moved into the rankings at No. 25 thanks to a pair of wins at Texas Christian. This marks the Gophers' first appearance in the rankings since May 20, 2001.
