College Top 25: June 3
Miami remains No. 1; N.C. State climbs 10 spots
Staff Report
June 3, 2008
It was a banner weekend for the favorites, as all eight national seeds won regionals and 13 of 16 No. 1 seeds advanced. Accordingly, there's little movement at the top of Baseball America's Top 25 rankings, where the first five teams remain the same, led by No. 1 Miami. The Hurricanes went 3-0 in a challenging regional to set up a super-regional showdown against Arizona.
UC Irvine and Texas A&M are the only newcomers to the top 10, after the Anteaters swept through the Lincoln regional and the Aggies held off Houston to win the College Station regional. Oklahoma State and San Diego plummeted from the top 10 down to No. 16 and No. 18, respectively, after losing their regionals. USD's 11-spot drop is the biggest of the week.
The biggest climber of the week is North Carolina State, which jumped 10 spots after going a perfect 3-0 in the first-ever Raleigh regional. Coastal Carolina, Wichita State and Arizona also made big moves up the rankings after each was perfect in regional play.
Fresno State won the loaded Long Beach regional to join the rankings for the first time since Feb. 25. The Bulldogs, ranked No. 18 in the preseason, re-enter the rankings at No. 17.
The staff of Baseball America determines the Top 25 rankings. Records indicated are through games of June 2 and do not include ties.
