College Top 25: May 5
Lousiana State climbs back into poll, Miami still No. 1
Staff Report
May 5, 2008
Miami swept St. Mary's to improve its record to 39-5 and remain atop the Baseball America Top 25 Rankings for the fifth straight week.
Arizona State won its series on the road against Pac-10 opponent UCLA to move up to the No. 3 spot. The Sun Devils were followed by Florida State, winner of a pair of games on the road against Clemson, and Nebraska, who swept Louisiana-Lafayette, at the Nos. 4 and 5 spots. Stanford lost a pair of midweek games against Santa Clara and UC Davis to slip to No. 6.
Unlike most weeks this season, there was not much movement in the middle of the rankings this week. Vanderbilt swept in-state rival Tennessee to move up to second place in the Southeastern Conference, good for a No. 18 ranking, and St. John's swept Big East foe West Virginia to move up three spots to No. 21.
Two teams made their season debuts in the rankings this week. Louisiana State swept then-No. 18 Kentucky on the road to move into the rankings at No. 22, while Texas Christian, who has won of 23 of their last 29 games to run its record to 33-16 overall, swept Utah to crack the Rankings at No. 25.
The staff of Baseball America determines the Top 25 rankings. Records indicated are through games of May 4 and do not include ties.
