Aggies Keep Climbing
Miami remains No. 1, Texas A&M joins Top 10
Staff Report
April 28, 2008
Miami swept conference foe Virginia to remain on top of the Baseball America Top 25 rankings for the fourth consecutive week, but there was plenty of shuffling elsewhere in the new rankings.
The top two spots in the rankings stayed the same, as No. 2 North Carolina won its series against then-No. 3 Florida State. The Seminoles, having lost consecutive series to Miami and North Carolina, dropped to No. 5. Stanford and Arizona State each moved into the Top 5. Arizona State split a pair of midweek games with Cal State Fullerton and swept California over the weekend, while Stanford won its ninth straight weekend series to move up to No. 3.
A pair of Big 12 teams made big moves to break into the Top 10 this week. Oklahoma State swept its weekend series with Kansas to move up to No. 9, and Texas A&M swept then-No. 4 Missouri, giving the Aggies wins in 20 of their last 21 games, to move up from No. 18 to No. 10. Meanwhile, the Tigers took the hardest fall of the week, dropping all the way to No. 15.
Two teams moved into the rankings this week. Two-time defending national champion Oregon State returned to the rankings at No. 23 after defeating Arizona over the weekend, and St. John's moved into the rankings for the first time this season after winning its series on the road against Big East foe Notre Dame.
The staff of Baseball America determines the Top 25 rankings. Records indicated are through games of April 27 and do not include ties.
