More Honors For Miami
Hurricanes retain top spot by beating Florida State
Staff Report
April 21, 2008
DURHAM, N.C.—Miami cemented its No. 1 spot in the new Baseball America Top 25 Rankings as the Hurricanes went on the road and defeated No. 3 Florida State in one of the most anticipated series of the year.
Miami remained atop the rankings for the third consecutive week, while North Carolina posted a 5-0 week to move up to No. 2, and Florida State remains at No. 3, giving the ACC the top three teams in the Rankings. BA is still researching to see if any conference ever has placed three teams in the top three spots.
Missouri won a conference series on the road against Oklahoma to move up to No. 4, and one of the biggest movers of the week was Stanford, up five spots to No. 5. The Cardinal won a road series at UCLA to jump ahead of Arizona State, which has split its four Pac-10 Conference series. Rice and Georgia each moved into the Top 10 after winning conference series on the road. Oklahoma State was another team that made a sizable leap, as the Cowboys swept then-No. 20 Texas on the road to move up five spots to No. 13.
Three teams moved into the rankings this week. Former No. 1-ranked Arizona returns to the rankings at No. 23 while riding a 10-game winning streak. North Carolina State and Long Beach State each won midweek games over ranked opponents as well as their weekend series to move into the rankings as well.
The staff of Baseball America determines the Top 25 rankings. Records indicated are through games of April 20 and do not include ties.
