Staff Report
April 14, 2008
DURHAM, N.C.—Miami swept a somber Georgia Tech squad to maintain its spot atop the Baseball America Top 25 Rankings.
The first four sports in the rankings remain unchanged, as Miami, Arizona State, Florida State, and North Carolina all won conference series on the road. Arizona State won two of three against Washington State, while Florida State and North Carolina swept Boston College and Clemson, respectively. UC Irvine moved up to No. 5 after winning its series on the road against Long Beach State. The Dirtbags, who were ranked 20th at the time, fell out of the rankings with 11 losses in their last 13 games.
Missouri and Wichita State each moved up two spots in the Top 10. Missouri won its series against Texas, scoring 46 runs in the process, to move up to No. 6, and Wichita State won its series on the road against a quality team in Creighton to move up to No. 7, with only one series loss (at Long Beach State to start the season). Texas, meanwhile, was the week's biggest mover, falling eight spots to No. 20 with its third series defeat.
Three new teams moved into the rankings this week. Texas A&M came in at No. 19, as the Aggies continued their impressive season by posting a 4-0 week, sweeping Big 12 foe Oklahoma. Pepperdine moved into the rankings at No. 23, and East Carolina returned to the rankings at No. 24. UNC Wilmington and Florida joined LBSU in falling out of the Top 25.
