College Top 25: March 3

Arizona holds onto No. 1; Arizona State moves up

DURHAM, N.C.—Arizona remains No. 1 in Baseball America's college Top 25 rankings, but Grand Canyon State rival Arizona State continues to creep up on the top spot.

The Wildcats swept pesky Sacramento State to remain No. 1. The Sun Devils moved up from No. 6 to No. 4 after they notched a pair of wins against Michigan, then ranked eighth, by a combined score of 23-8. Arizona State added wins over Hawaii and Portland to vault themselves over North Carolina and Missouri, which check in at Nos. 5 and 6. Meanwhile, the Wolverines endured the biggest drop of any team in the Top 25, falling to No. 15, thanks not only to their losses to Arizona State, but to a 10-inning loss to Portland as well.

Michigan's fall allowed several teams to move up, including Miami, which won its series against Florida; South Carolina, which swept two games from rival Clemson; and Long Beach State, which swept Wichita State. Clemson (No. 23) and Wichita (No. 25) remain ranked.

There was plenty of movement found at the bottom of the rankings, as four teams moved in for the first time this year. California posted wins over Fresno State, San Diego State, and San Diego to move into the rankings at No. 18. UC Irvine comes in at No. 19 as the Anteaters improved to 7-0 and have posted four shutouts already. Florida State enters at No. 20 after sweeping Auburn, and Kentucky at No. 24 after a 9-0 start.

The staff of Baseball America determines the Top 25 rankings. Records indicated are through games of March 2 and do not include ties.
