After losing opening weekend series, Miami and Texas dropped out of the top four in Baseball America's weekly Top 25 college baseball rankings, making way for Clemson, North Carolina, and South Carolina. Rice retained its No. 1 ranking with a victory over Central Missouri.
Tennessee took the biggest tumble of any Top 25 team, falling from No. 11 to No. 20 after it was decisively swept by Florida State. The Seminoles then moved up to No. 14. Cal State Fullerton also moved up in the rankings, climbing two spots after sweeping rival Stanford in their annual season-opening meeting. Pepperdine joined Tennessee in tumbling somewhat, moving from No. 19 to No. 23 after dropping two of three games to Nevada-Las Vegas.
San Diego jumped into the Top 25 with a 2-1 series victory at Texas. The Toreros, who swept the Longhorns at home to open their 2006 season, settled in at No. 17. Outscoring Southern Utah 61-8 in a three game sweep, Arizona State moved up from No. 20 to No. 16.
The staff of Baseball America determines the Top 25 rankings. Records indicated are through games of February 4 and do not include ties.
