MSU extended its school-record win streak to 18 games before dropping Saturday's contest. Sr. SS Thomas Berkery extended his hit streak to 18 games during the series, and helped the Bulldogs earn their first series win at LSU since 2000 with a 10th-inning sac fly Sunday. He's batting .403. Jr. 1B Brad LaNinfa homered in each MSU win at LSU while filling in for the injured Brad Jones.

The pitching staff rebounded from last week's debacle at NC State to post a 1.67 ERA and hold UNC to a .186 average, led by So. RHP Tim Gustafson (7 IP, 6 H, ER, 7 K). The bullpen didn't allow a run in 8 1/3 innings. Jr. 1B Whit Robbins homered and drove in three runs Saturday.

Jr. RHP Bryan Henry struck out 12 batters and held Duke hitless for eight innings Friday night before allowing three hits and two runs in the final frame. Jr. DH Jack Rye homered and drove in four runs Saturday. Jr. CF Shane Robinson tallied seven runs, six hits and four steals in the series.

5. SOUTH CAROLINA

This was supposed to be a down year for Ray Tanner's boys, right? Maybe Ol' Ray's that good. This marked S. Carolina's first sweep of Florida since 1995. Sr. 3B Neil Giesler recorded 10 hits on the week to keep his 17-game hit streak intact and raise his average to .506(!). Jr. DH Robbie Grinestaff missed Friday's game, but hit a game-winning three-run homer Saturday and clubbed two more bombs as part of a four-hit game Sunday. He leads the team with nine homers and 32 RBIs. Jr. LHP Arik Hempy struck out a career-high 12 batters Friday.

Of Rice's last four losses, three have come in its opponent's final at-bat. Another example came Friday, after Sr. RHP Eddie Degerman struck out 11 batters in 7.1 innings and left with a 3-2 lead. Jr. RHP Craig Crow threw six scoreless innings Saturday. So. LHP Joe Savery threw eight scoreless innings Sunday and has allowed one earned run in his last 19.1 innings. That's nine straight losses to Texas.

Jr. LF Jay Cox extended his hit streak to 11 games before going hitless Sunday, a day in which Jr. RHP Robert Woodard (6 IP, 3 ER) lost for the first time in 14 decisions.

Jr. OF Tyler Colvin rang up three doubles, a triple and four RBIs to lead the offense.

DH/OF Kyle Russell homered three times on the week, including twice Sunday. His five HRs lead the team. Jr. CF Drew Stubbs hit a three-run homer in the eighth inning Sunday to put Texas ahead to stay. Fr. 2B Bradley Suttle hit .636 against Oklahoma State.

Sunday's drubbing was the third-worst loss in school history, capping a series in which UF was outscored 31-10 (nice football score) and batted .202. Jr. CF Gavin Dickey homered twice and drove in four runs Saturday. Raise your hand if you thought Dickey would hold team leads with seven homers and 24 RBIs.

Stewart hit .412 with two homers on the week and has nine homers in his last 14 games. Sr. 3B Will Harris doubled home two runs to break a 6-6 tie in the comeback eighth Saturday. 2B/3B J.T. Wise went 4-for-5 Sunday.

RHP Greg Dombrowski (CG, 9 H, ER) was strong Sunday, but did allow his first walk in 58 1/3 innings, dating to 2005. Jr. LHP Craig Snipp (7 IP. 7 H, ER) was equally strong Saturday, but was out of the game before UK scored five times in the ninth inning to win.

SS Gordan Beckham hit a two-run homer in the ninth inning Saturday. He leads the team with 21 RBIs and ranks second with six homers.

Make it six straight wins for the 'Throp, which dispatched a Liberty club with 17 wins to its credit. Winthrop needed a four-run ninth inning Saturday and a six-run eighth inning Sunday to pull off the sweep. Fr. RHP Alex Wilson improved to 6-0 Friday (7.2 IP, 3 H, 0 R, career-high 14 K's). Jr. SS Chris Carrara tallied six hits, a homer and three RBIs in the final two games, driving in the equalizer Sunday before scoring the go-ahead run.

25. MIAMI

So. RHP Carlos Gutierrez improved to 7-1 Friday (7 IP, 5 H, 2 R, ER) and So. LHP Scott Maine was even better Sunday (8 IP, 2 H, R, 0 ER) to drop his ERA to 2.10. Miami has a 2.35 team ERA. The 16-game win streak ended Saturday when Miami made a season-high five errors, including two in the eighth inning that led to two runs.

Stanford has lost four straight games with an exam break sandwiched in the middle. The Trees led 4-1 Sunday, but couldn't hold on. WSU entered the series with a 23-game losing streak to Stanford and will leave with its first series win against the Cardinal since 1970. Fr. 1B Jason Castro went 3-for-3 Saturday.

Baylor led 8-0 Sunday before losing, marking its first loss in 30 games when it had scored seven or more runs. Sr. C Zach Dillon's streak of reaching base safely ended at eight Sunday. Baylor scored four times in the ninth inning Friday and escaped a bases-loaded situation in the bottom of the frame to come from behind for a win. Jr. CF Chase Gerdes drove in two runs in that ninth-inning rally before catching the game's final out.
