Pirates Acquire Wandy Rodriguez From Rival Astros

During Neal Huntington's first two summers as general manager of the Pirates in 2008-09 he traded veterans nearing free agency for young players with upside who could help the next contending Pittsburgh squad. Four years later, Huntington has carried out the process in reverse, trading for veteran Astros lefty Wandy Rodriguez at the cost of three of the Pirates' prospects.

Orioles Acquire Belfiore From D-backs As PTBN For Bell

First-year Orioles general manager Dan Duquette had no history with third baseman Josh Bell, so he didn't let sentimentality get in the way when he needed to clear 40-man roster space. Baltimore designated Bell for assignment on April 17 and subsequently traded him to the Diamondbacks for high Class A lefthander Mike Belfiore.

Down Two Center Fielders, Red Sox Deal For Byrd

Faced with the prospect of playing at least a third of the season without last year's MVP runner-up Jacoby Ellsbury, the Red Sox swung a trade to acquire veteran center fielder Marlon Byrd from the Cubs. Boston sent 25-year-old righthander Michael Bowden and a player to be named to Chicago for Byrd and virtually all of the $6.5 million remaining on his contract.
