Neftali Feliz Is Now The Rangers’ Closer

The Rangers' top prospect is now the Rangers' top reliever. Righthander Neftali Feliz, who has spent the last two seasons as the club's top-ranked prospect, according to Baseball America, was moved into the closer's role before the first week of the season. Feliz, who turns 22 on May 4, was moved into the role after right-hander Frank Francisco suffered blown saves in consecutive outings.

Frustrating Fracture

The long road back from labrum surgery is bumpy enough, but when you throw in a fractured bone in the wrist, it gets even tougher. While the rest of his teammates are packing up to leave spring training, Rangers 2004 first-round pick Eric Hurley is still trying to get his recovery back on track. Hurley, who hasn't pitched since July 27, 2008, looked to be about a month behind pitchers at the start of spring training, but a month in, it was discovered that Hurley had a fractured scaphoid bone in his left (non-pitching) wrist.

But for trendsetters, it would be wise to keep an eye on Rangers righthander Tanner Scheppers. It's entirely possible Scheppers could beat Strasburg to the majors. Rangers Pitchers Looking For Second Chance

Once nothing more than a Quixotic quest, it appears the five years the Rangers spent trying to clear the names of pitching prospects Omar Beltre and Alexi Ogando is about to pay off with U.S. entry papers. Rangers officials have been told that the pair, who have been banned from the U.S. since 2005 for their part in facilitating a Dominican Republic-based human trafficking ring with sham weddings, will be given waivers to enter the U.S. for the 2010 season.
