SANTIAGO, D.R.–Miguel Tejada blasted two home runs as Aguilas routed Mexico 13-6 in the late game Saturday night.
Caribbean Series Pairings Almost Set
Things are gearing up for the 50th anniversary of the Caribbean Series, as each league—the Mexican Pacific League, the Dominican League and the Venezuelan League—are all currently in the finals.
Tejada Leads Dominicans To 2007 Caribbean Title
With his theatrics on the mound and flamboyant style, righthander Jose Lima embodies a number of characteristics of Latin American baseball. Of course, it didn't hurt that he was at the center of most 2007 Caribbean Series storylines. It was shortstop Miguel Tejada (Orioles), however, whose play contributed most heavily to the Dominican Republic's Caribbean Series championship, reinforcing his stature as the heart and soul of Dominican baseball.
Caribbean Series Top 10
We actually only went with a top prospect for the Series, but here are the top 10 things that I loved about being there.10. Tony Batista not being able to stop his momentum and running all the way into right-center field whenever he ranged to his left at third base.
Caribbean Series Day Six
Dominican Republic fans hung around Roberto Clemente Walker Stadium for hours after the final game of the 2007 Caribbean Series, with car horns honking, music blaring and dancing and chanting in the parking lot. Even though they lost 1-0 to Puerto Rico.
U.S. Comes In Fourth
The United States came in fourth place at the 2007 Caribbean Series . . . in credentialed media personnel (which is such a hugely valuable piece of information).
Thanks For Coming Out
Jose Lima gave one of the best performances of the Series, in what was the best games of the entire week. And it didn't even matter that he lost. After pitching eight brilliant innings, Lima allowed a double and then a walk before being pulled in favor of Arnaldo Munoz, who gave up the game-winning single to Javier Valentin as Puerto Rico salvaged a victory to finish a game behind the Dominican Republic. But the game didn't really matter, as the Dominican Republic had wrapped up the Caribbean Series title the night before when Puerto Rico lost to Venezuela.
Who Brought The Cops Out?
There is a higher level of security here in Roberto Clemente Walker Stadium than at any other time during the Series, and as of the top of the ninth inning, they are now lined up on both the right and left field lines . . . about 20 on each side.
