USA Baseball Gets Its Field Of Dreams

A shared vision of USA Baseball, Major League Baseball and the town of Cary is now a reality. The ceremonial ribbon cutting by USA Baseball President Mike Gaski and Cary mayor Ernie McAlister marked the opening of the $11 million USA Baseball National Training Complex, which includes three training field and a main stadium with a full press box and separate suites for scoring, radio and other press members.

This was the first wide-scale national scouting event of the summer, and before major league teams had time to polish off the paperwork of the 2007 draft, more than 300 of the nation's top rising high school seniors gathered in Cincinnati for '08 orientation.

Team USA Announces Junior Finalists

USA Baseball announced the 32 players who will be considered for inclusion on its 2007 18-and-under junior national team. The 32 players, along with 11 alternates, were selected from a pool of 144 players who participated in the 15th annual Tournament of Stars at USA Baseball's national training complex in Cary, N.C.

Less than four days after the final pick of the 2007 draft was made, the Major League Baseball Scouting Bureau held the first wide-scale showcase of the new scouting season. Forty-four players from Southern California gathered in Compton for workouts and a nine-inning game that served as a good ice-breaker for the summer showcase and tournament circuit.
