Arguably the fastest player in this year's draft class, McPhearson is at least a 70 runner on the 20-80 scouting scale and stole 68 bases last year. He won't challenge that mark after a tender hamstring caused him to miss a week of games this spring. He is tightly wound, with wiry strength in his 5-foot-10, 170-pound frame and has been compared to Ben Revere, Michael Bourn and Paul Blair. His speed allows him to cover a lot of real estate in center field, and his arm is adequate for the position. The biggest question is whether McPhearson will hit enough. He has good bat speed and strength in his swing, but it's an uppercut stroke that's not conducive to hitting balls on the ground and making use of his speed. He doesn't project to hit more than 10-15 home runs a season, but his speed will create plenty of doubles and triples on balls in the gaps. If teams deem him signable, McPhearson could find himself getting popped between the third and fifth rounds. He is committed to Miami.
