A powerful hitter coming out of high school, Ostberg wasn't able to tap into much of that during his freshman year at Hartford, hitting just three extra-base hits in 124 at-bats that season (all doubles). He improved that significantly during his sophomore campaign and also handled a wood bat in the New England Collegiate Baseball League, where he batted .262/.345/.366. Before getting injured, Ostberg was off to the best start of his collegiate career, slugging well over .800 with more than twice as many walks (22) as strikeouts (10). Ostberg has a strong lefthanded bat, with mostly pull power and was playing his way up draft boards before injuring his knee on a slide into second base. He's fringe-averge at best behind the dish. In a class light on college catchers, Ostberg was trending towards the top of the demographic. Ostberg has an advanced approach at the plate and sees a lot of pitches, which will encourage some teams although his modest power numbers with a wood bat could simultaneously give clubs pause.
