The Mets drafted Teaney in the 35th round after he led the state of California in strikeouts as a high school senior. Teaney kept getting swings and misses in college but also became a wild man, with 87 walks in 99.2 career innings to go with 121 strikeouts. He was demoted from the Toreros rotation after just two starts as a junior. Teaney's fastball sits 90-94 mph and he backs it up with two strong secondary offerings. His above-average curveball has 12-to-6 action and been described as a "hammer" while his changeup grades solid-average. Teaney's control is extremely poor however, even with a simple delivery out of a strong and athletic 6-foot-2, 200-pound frame. Some evaluators chalk his wildness up to lost confidence, which they hope can be restored. If it can, Teaney has the stuff and build to be a mid-rotation starter and could be steal as a late-round pick.
