The son of former big leaguer Lenny Dykstra, Luke inherited his father's grit and baseball instincts. He doesn't have any standout tool, but all of his tools play up because of his feel for the game and aggressiveness. Dykstra plays shortstop in high school and is "functional" at the position, as one scout put it, with good reads and the ability to throw on the run and from different angles. But he projects as a third baseman or left fielder, with the ability to handle the middle infield if needed. He is a solid runner with good baserunning skills, and he has a solid arm that should play at third base. At the plate, Dykstra has quick hands and an all-fields approach, and he has developed better plate discipline this spring. He also offers occasional righthanded power, though it's average at best. A Fresno State commit, Dykstra could be drafted as high as the second round, but the consensus among area scouts places him in the third- to fifth-round range.
