Texas finished in last place for the first time in the 17-year history in the Big 12 Conference, and an anemic offense was a major reason why. Weiss contributed with the worst offensive numbers of his career (.299/.399/.390 with one homer) as he tried too hard to pick up the slack. While he still ranks as the second-best college position player in the state behind Stephen F. Austin State's Hunter Dozier, Weiss' draft stock has dropped from the second or third round to closer to the 10th. Previously considered a solid lefthanded hitter with gap power, his performance dropped off as he adopted a more rigid and upright stance. He swung and missed more did not hit the ball with much authority when pitchers pounded him inside. The 6-foot-2, 200-pounder's bat will have to carry him because he has fringy speed and range at third base, though he has good hands and an average arm. His father Gary played briefly in the big leagues as a shortstop.
