Roth is a long-term project with upside. He has run his fastball up to 92 mph on occasion this spring, but more often he pitches at 88-91, and sometimes his velocity ranges from 84-90. As he fills out his 6-foot-3, 190-pound frame, it's easy to envision him throwing harder. He shows feel to spin a breaking ball, which is a hard slurve with sharp break. He has no feel for a changeup, and he needs to do a better job throwing strikes consistently. If he can improve his control, command and secondary stuff in at Arizona, he could become a high pick in three years. Roth also plays the outfield and offers righthanded power potential at the plate, and he figures to play both ways for the Wildcats.
