With Mota's inclusion on the 40-man roster, all four players acquired from the Yankees for second baseman Chuck Knoblauch still have a chance to contribute to the Twins. Mota's improved command allowed him to join the others in the big leagues in 2000, a far cry from the year before, when he missed most of the season with a sprained elbow. Healthy again, Mota showed a 94 mph fastball and a good slider. He had no trouble with lefthanders in the minors, though they batted .417 against him during his brief stint with the Twins. After going from Class A to the majors in one season, he'll probably settle in at Triple-A to start 2001.
