At some positions, it takes only a second or two to identify the best prospect in the game. Catcher? Joe Mauer. Second base? Bobby Hill. Lefthanded pitcher? Ryan Anderson. With apologies to Josh Phelps, Jake Gautreau and Carlos Hernandez, those aren't tough calls to make.
But you'll find plenty of debate at the other spots, which came to the forefront as we formulated our annual Top 100 Prospects list. So we solicited the opinions of scouts, who helped us break down the tools of each player on the standard 20-80 scouting scale. Choose from the matchups below:
Righthander: Josh Beckett vs. Mark Prior
First baseman: Nick Johnson vs. Carlos Pena
Third baseman: Sean Burroughs vs. Hank Blalock
Shortstop: Wilson Betemit vs. Angel Berroa
Outfielder: Joe Borchard vs. Austin Kearns
