Chad Hawkins, rhp
Baylor

Hawkins, a 6-foot-7 senior who went undrafted in 1999, defined his season when he matched Cal State Fullerton ace Adam Johnson pitch for pitch. He had an outstanding year in taking over as the No. 1 starter at Baylor from Jason Jennings, a first-round pick of the Rockies in 1999. Hawkins went 9-4, 1.70 with 86 strikeouts in 101 innings. He attributes his success to not pitching at all last summer and fall, enabling him to come back strong. He added 3-4 mph to his fastball. He may not be the first senior drafted, but he should go in the top four rounds to a team looking for a bargain.
