Trend: With the exception of 2005, the Cardinals have been more college-oriented of late than any organization. They took that to new levels this spring, hiring three crosscheckers who scouted college players almost exclusively. Scouting director Jeff Luhnow is now running the farm department as well, so there should be no disconnect between scouting and player development.
This Year's Outlook: The Cardinals have been a landing spot for Boras clients going back to Rick Ankiel (1997) and J.D. Drew (1998), but they have gone away from those types of players in recent years, and the industry buzz did not have them going the Boras route this year. If they take a prep player early, it will be a significant surprise.
