Scouting Director: Tim Hallgren (first year: 2007)
Order in 2007 Rotation: 22nd
Extra Picks: First round (20th, for loss of Type A free agent Julio Lugo to Red Sox), Supplemental first round (39th, for loss of Lugo)
Lost Picks: First round (22nd, for signing Type A free agent Jason Schmidt from Giants)
Trend: Logan White was promoted to assistant general manager for his five years of work as scouting director, as the Dodgers exploited the "Moneyball" trend to snap up high school players who fell to them. The Dodgers also aren't afraid to go against the grain, as was the case with James Loney (2002, first round) and Preston Mattingly (2006, supplemental).
This Year's Outlook: Hallgren had been White's top aid in recent years and now handles the bulk of the draft himself, with White's obvious input toward the top. The Dodgers could use an infusion of righthanded power arms to fill in for those graduated to the majors lately (Chad Billingsley, Jonathan Broxton), and this year's a good year to do that.
