Scouting Director: Jason McLeod (first year: 2005)
Order in 2007 Rotation: 20th
Extra Picks: Supplemental first round (55th, for loss of Type B free agent Alex Gonzalez to Reds), supplemental first round (62nd, for loss of Type B free agent Keith Foulke to Indians)
Lost Picks: First round (20th, for signing Type A free agent Julio Lugo from Dodgers)
Trend: After drafting conservatively for several years, Boston went for impact bats, arms and athletes last season. The Red Sox are not afraid to spend, having spent more than $14 million for bonuses in the last two drafts, including $8.5 million last year.
This Year's Outlook: The Red Sox lost their first-rounder, so they don't pick until No. 55, then go again at 62. It's conceivable--or even likely--that they'll take a shot at a player who slips for signability reasons.
