Trend: Under former scouting director Mike Rizzo, the Diamondbacks were as college-heavy in the first 10 rounds in the last five years as any organization. Combined with a strong Latin American program, it has resulted in a stocked farm system.
This Year's Outlook: Arizona already has spent $4.3 million ($3 million bonus as part of a major league deal) on last year's first-rounder, Max Scherzer, who signed at the end of May. Look for Allison, in his first draft calling the shots, to keep that in mind with an eye on the budget with his picks. The overall preference might still be for college players, but the Diamondbacks won't shy away from high school talent early.
