Toronto took Billy Koch with the fourth overall pick and followed that by selecting Joe Lawrence (1), Brent Abernathy (2), Clayton Andrews (3), John Bale (5), Casey Blake (7) and Josh Phelps (10)all of whom are prospects four years later. WORST DRAFT Padres. The spring training release of first-round pick Matt Halloran means the only San Diego pick from the first 10 rounds who remains in the organization is Jason Middlebrook, who continues to try to justify his record $750,000 bonus as a ninth-round pick.
