The New York Yankees named Jean Afterman assistant general manager, making her only the third female to hold such a position in Major League Baseball history and the second with the Yankees.
Afterman succeeds Kim Ng, who was baseball's second female assistant GM from 1998 through 2001.
“Jean Afterman's abilities as a lawyer and negotiator, as well as her expertise in the Far East can only strengthen the abilities of the New York Yankees as we move forward in our quest to become World Champions once again,” Yankees GM Brian Cashman.
The 44-year-old Afterman joins the Yankees with a diverse business and legal background, including corporate, labor and immigration law, as well as international sports and licensing with an emphasis on US-Japan issues. She has managed the Law Offices of Jean Afterman since 1999, providing athlete representation and management with specialization in arbitration proceedings.
