Wieters Jumps To Double-A Bowie

To no one’s surprise, catcher Matt Wieters was promoted to Double-A Bowie, just one game after the California-Carolina League all star game. It was inevitable and warranted as Wieters destroyed high Class A pitchers to the tune of .345/.448/.576 with 15 home runs and 40 RBIs in 229 at-bats. He also showed tremendous defensive skills, nailing 25 out of 55 would-be base stealers and allowing just three passed balls. He committed six errors in 346 chances giving him a .985 fielding percentage.

Wieters owned lefthanders in particular. He hit .391 against them, 64 points higher than his numbers from the opposite side, but most impressive was that he slugged a staggering .828 from the right side of the plate.

In his "farewell game" on Thursday night, Wieters went 2-for-4 with a double and home run.
