The week ahead in minor league baseball features a rehabbing Wil Myers, the Crawdads-RiverDogs showdown and date night for mom and son in Tennessee.
Series to Watch at the Park
Durham at Rochester (Aug. 11-14): This Triple-A (International League) series is notable for the continued rehab of 2013 rookie of the year Wil Myers for Durham, but also includes Mike Montgomery and Enny Romero making starts for the Bulls, while Minnesota’s No. 5 prospect, Alex Meyer will get a turn for the Red Wings.
Trevor May was listed as the starter for Monday’s game, but that seems unlikely given his major league start against the A’s on Friday. That did not go well. The Red Wings also boast catcher Josmil Pinto, who began the season with the Twins.
In addition to Myers, the Bulls have recent trade acquisition Nick Franklin, who’s playing second and short; Triple-A All-Star Mikie Mahtook and slick-fielding Hak-Ju Lee. Tim Beckham, the No. 1 pick in 2008, could join the Bulls as well this week.
MILB.TV Series Of The Week
Hickory at Charleston (Aug. 11-13): It's not as alluring a series as it would have been before Hickory’s Nomar Mazara was promoted to Double-A and Lewis Brinson was bumped up to high Class A and Charleston saw Luis Severino and Aaron Judge move up and out as well. But Hickory still has 2013 first-round pick Travis Demeritte, who is leading the league with 24 home runs. And the Crawdads have recently added 2014 first-round pick Luis Ortiz. The righthander threw three hitless innings in his Hickory debut last Wednesday.
On Friday, the Tennessee Smokies, the Double-A affiliate of the Cubs, will offer more than the mere chance to see Addison Russell in action.
