Watson Snaps IL Hit Streak Record

Brandon Watson just keeps rolling along. Watson lined a sixth-inning single to extend his hitting streak to an International League record 43 games. It’s tied for the eighth-longest hitting streak in minor league history, and is longer than all but three major league hitting streaks (Pete Rose and Willie Keeler’s 44-game streaks and Joe Dimaggio’s 56-game streak).

His hit Sunday allowed him to pass Rochester’s Jack Lelivelt who had a 42-game hitting streak in 1912. Watson will be facing Rochester’s Jeremy Cummings on Monday with a chance to extend his streak to 44 games, which would give him the longest hitting streak in the minors in the past half-century.
