Tyler Skaggs Starts Strong For D-backs

Tyler Skaggs picked up where he left off last season in his first start of 2012 with Double-A Mobile. The 21-year-old lefthander shut down Mississippi for six innings, allowing just one run on five hits. He struck out seven without issuing a walk.

Skaggs went 4-1, 2.50 down in 10 starts for Mobile down the stretch last season after earning a promotion from high Class A. In his 2012 debut, Skaggs ran into serious trouble just once, in the third inning when he allowed two singles and threw a wild pitch that scored a run.

Skaggs lived up to his reputation as a solid strikethrower. The third was his only taxing inning, and he completed his six frames on an efficient 83 pitches. He struck out four of the first seven hitters he faced, and all five hits he gave up were singles.
