Charlie Montoyo of the host Bulls and Bob Mariano of the Fresno Grizzlies were named managers of the International League and Pacific Coast League teams, respectively, for the Triple-A all-star game to be played at Durham Bulls Athletic Park on July 16.
Montoyo is managing the IL team for the second time in four years after leading the Bulls, the Rays’ affiliate, to the Governors Cup. His coaches are Columbus Clippers manager Chris Tremie and Clippers pitching coach Tony Arnold.
Mariano is in his third season at Fresno, the affiliate of the Giants, and is the first Grizzlies manager to lead the PCL team in the all-star game. Glenn Dishman, pitching coach of the Albuquerque Isotopes, and Bob Skube, hitting coach of the Nashville Sounds, will be joining Mariano in Durham.
Among the pre-game festivities will be the all-star fan fest on July 12, the home run derby on July 14 at DBAP and a players’ workout on July 15, which is open to the public.
