The Mariners have stockpiled their top pitching prospects at Double-A Jackson, and we were able to catch up with a scout who recently saw the Generals in action. We were able to get his thoughts on Seattle's top two prospects, righthander Taijuan Walker and lefty Danny Hultzen, along with power righthanded reliever Carter Capps.

Scout’s View: Jared Mitchell

Heading into the 2012 season, Jared Mitchell, 23, had overcome a serious injury and shown a serious problem making contact. The White Sox aggressively promoted him to Double-A Birmingham anyway, and three weeks into the season, Mitchell was hitting the ball with authority. He was batting .309/.447/.515 with 16 walks and 20 strikeouts in 68 at-bats. We talked to an American League professional scout to get an opinion on why Mitchell is succeeding in Double-A after struggling in high Class A.

Scout’s View: Pedro Alvarez

Pedro Alvarez is no longer a prospect, but he's not exactly an established big leaguer either. With a .050/.050/.200 line with 12 strikeouts in his first 20 at-bats this season, Alvarez hasn't exactly shown signs that last year's .191/.272/.289 stat line is an aberration. With that in mind, we asked a scout who saw him this spring training if he had an explanation for the second pick in the 2008 draft's struggles.
