California League Top 20 Prospects With Scouting Reports

The high Class A California League had an obvious top prospect in the previous two seasons, when Buster Posey (2009) and Mike Trout (2010) ran away from the field. The battle for No. 1 honors was more competitive this year, with Visalia lefthander Tyler Skaggs, Lake Elsinore third baseman Jedd Gyorko and San Jose outfielder Gary Brown all receiving strong support. With his combination of stuff and polish, Skaggs ultimately got the nod.

Carolina League Top 20 Prospects

With fewer teams (eight) than any other full-season circuit, the high Class A Carolina League is rarely loaded with talent. The Nationals' decision to skip Bryce Harper past Potomac didn't help matters, but the CL still had two of the top five picks from the 2010 draft and they headlined our Top 20 Prospects list.

2011 Pioneer League Top 20 Prospects With Scouting Reports

Despite its Rookie-advanced classification, the Pioneer League plays more like the short-season New York-Penn leagues or Northwest leagues than its sister Appalachian League. Whereas Appy Leaguers average about 20 years in age, the other three leagues come in just north of 21. To that end, half of this year's PL Top 20 Prospects list consists of players with four-year college experience, including four of the top 10.

2011 Appalachian League Top 20 Prospects

Several Rookie-level Appalachian League prospects had high pedigrees in 2011. A dozen players selected in the first two rounds of the last two drafts played enough to qualify for this prospect list and 10 cracked the Top 20, led by righthander Tyrell Jenkins of league champion Johnson City. Additionally, the league also featured a quintent of international players who signed for seven-figure bonuses, with Elizabethton third baseman/shortstop Miguel Sano and Pulaski outfielder Guillermo Pimentel making the list.
