Prospect Of The Day
There is just no stopping Ryan Flaherty (Cubs) these days. The Boise shortstop is scorching the ball in a week that will certainly merit Hot Sheet consideration tomorrow. He went 2-for-5 with a home run yesterday to extend his extra-base hitting streak to six games. Meanwhile, in his last six, Flaherty has seven RBIs and has struck out just three times in 27 at-bats.
Nineteen-year old righthander Arquimedes Nieto (Cardinals) has been difficult enough to hit all season, but he took things up a notch on Wednesday. The Batavia pitcher from Panama held Auburn to one hit, walked two and struck out a season-high six in five innings. . . Another short-season youngster, Carlos Pimentel (Rangers), also pitched five shutout innings, scattering five hits. The Spokane righthander struck out two and moved to 3-2 in the Northwest League. . . Flaherty is hardly the only offensive prospect of note playing for Boise. Third baseman Josh Vitters (Cubs) went 2-for-5, while first baseman Ryan Keedy (Cubs) went 2-for-4 with a double. . . Lonnie Chisenhall (Indians) is having a hot week of his own. The teenage shortstop played the field and went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs.
What To Watch For Today
There will be a very good matchup tonight, as Mike Loree (Giants) takes the mound when Salem-Keizer visits Boise. Loree against the multitude of Cubs prospects in Boise is certainly one to watch.
