Kyler Burke got some revenge while a pair of first-round picks made their pro debuts.
Prospect of the Day
Sawyer Carroll (Padres) hit .419 with 19 home runs at Kentucky this season. He stayed just as hot in his pro debut. After singling in the opening frame for his first professional hit, Carroll hit a triple in the sixth and double in the eighth. The third round pick finished up his first professional game 3-4 with a RBI and run scored.
Boise right fielder Kyler Burke (Cubs) stuck back against his former organization on Tuesday with a solo home run in the Hawks 6-5 victory. Burke was a Padres farmhand until he was included in last year’s Michael Barrett trade … Last year’s Cubs first-round pick Josh Vitters had a tougher night, as he went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts and a walk . . . Batavia first baseman Xavier Scruggs (Cardinals) didn’t have quite the opening night he would have liked in Batavia’s loss to Auburn. Scruggs, taken in the 19th round out of UNLV, was 0-4 with four strikeouts in his professional debut…Toronto first -ound pick David Cooper made his debut for Auburn on Tuesday, going 1-3 with a RBI and a walk…The Pirates 2007 fourth-rounder Quincy Latimore made his short-season debut on Tuesday, going 2-4 with a pair of runs in State College’s 7-6 loss…Mahoning played Lonnie Chisenhall (Indians) at shortstop in his professional debut and he delivered solid defense along with a sparkling offensive performance. The Indians’ first-round pick went 2-5 with a double and three runs scored.
