Prospect Of The Day

After enduring a recent power lapse, Casper (Rockies) catcher Wilin Rosario helped the Ghosts to a narrow 8-7 victory, slugging two solo home runs in the fourth and sixth innings. The 19-year-old backstop was 3-for-5 with three runs and two RBIs on the night. This is Rosario’s second season with Casper, as he batted just .209/.283/.296 last year, but has bolstered his prospect stock this season with a .328/.388/.587 line through 189 at-bats.

GCL Red Sox shortstop Casey Kelly was 2-for-3 with a run scored after going seven consecutive games without a multi-hit effort . . . AZL Athletics left fielder Rashun Dixon was slow out of the gate, but after going 2-for-5 with a run and an RBI last night, is batting .364 in his last 10 contests . . . Lefthander Brett DeVall surrendered the first earned run of his professional career, tossing three innings, allowing two hits and striking out four for the GCL Braves . . . Yesterday’s performance marked consecutive three-hit games for Helena (Brewers) right fielder Cutter Dykstra, finishing with a double, a home run and three RBIs. The roundtripper was his fourth in eight games . . . Tyler Kuhn snapped a seven-game hitting streak, as the Great Falls (White Sox) shortstop went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts . . . Righthander Brandon Hamilton, Detroit’s 2007 supplemental first rounder, fanned 10 in 5 2/3 innings and allowed two earned runs to improve to 5-0 with the GCL Tigers. His ERA sits at 1.93 for the season . . . Kingsport (Mets) shortstop Wilmer Flores was 1-for-3 and added his second stolen base of the year, but has not adjusted as well in the field, committing his 14th error of the season in a loss against Danville (Braves) . . . Recently signed Conor Gillaspie went 3-for-6 with a run, a double and five RBIs in the third game of his career while playing third base for the AZL Giants . . . Jeremy Accardo started the game for the GCL Blue Jays and threw one scoreless inning as part of a rehab stint.

Today’s Gulf Coast League slate features Kingsport (Mets) against Danville (Braves), each of whom is occupying second place in their respective divisions. The season series is tied at 2-2 thus far with just one more meeting scheduled after tonight’s.
