Mets’ Top Prospect Martinez Leaves Game With Hamstring Injury

Mets top prospect Fernando Martinez left Double-A Binghamton’s game yesterday against New Britain in the second inning after he was thrown out trying to steal second base.

Martinez said he felt "just a little pop" in his right hamstring trying to steal the base. He was replaced after the second inning and was walking gingerly in the clubhouse after the game.

"Right now, I don’t feel too bad," Martinez said. "Maybe a day or two, and I’ll be able to play again."

Martinez, who was 1-for-2 in the game, is batting .280/.314/.408 in 157 at-bats. The 19-year-old center fielder is the youngest player in Double-A.
