Mike Stanton continued his monster June, Danny Duffy had his best outing yet, and it was a long night in Cedar Rapids.

Prospect Of The Day

Is there anyone hotter than Mike Stanton? The Greensboro (Marlins) right fielder slugged his ninth home run of June last night against Lexington (Astros) in a 7-3 Grasshoppers win. Stanton added a double as well, finishing the night 2-for-4 with three RBIs. In 82 June at-bats, Stanton is hitting .341/.402/.780 and he’s raised his line for the season to .294/.354/.595.

Prospect Nuggets

Savannah (Mets) righthander Nick Carr struggled mightily in the Florida State League, but two of his three starts for Savannah since being demoted have been outstanding. Last night against Columbus (Rays), Carr carried a no-hitter into the eighth before giving up a one-out single to the Catfish’s Henry Wrigley. Carr ended up allowing two runs on one hit in 7 1/3 innings, with one walk and four strikeouts. Unfortunately for Carr, the Savannah bullpen allowed Columbus to tie the game in the eighth and win it in the tenth, leaving him with nothing to show for his efforts … Matched up with Carr was Columbus righthander Alex Cobb, who kept the Catfish in the game by allowing only one run on three hits over six innings. Cobb walked two and struck out seven … Lexington third baseman Matt Cusick went 3-for-5 with an RBI … Augusta (Giants) second baseman Nick Noonan went 3-for-5 with two doubles in an 8-3 over Asheville (Rockies), raising his line to .300/.331/.456.

What To Watch For Today

Last night’s game between Rome (Braves) and Charleston (Yankees) was suspended in the second inning with Charleston leading 2-0. The clubs will finish that game today starting at 5:05 EDT with the scheduled game following 30 minutes after its conclusion.

Midwest League

 Prospect Of The Day

Burlington (Royals) lefthander Danny Duffy turned in his best start of the season last night against Peoria (Cubs). Duffy tossed seven shutout innings, allowing only four hits, no walks and striking out eight. He improved his record to 3-3, dropped his ERA to 3.67 and upped his K-BB for the season to 44-8 in 34 1/3 innings.

Prospect Nuggets

Beloit (Twins) teammates Joe Benson and Chris Parmelee each went 3-for-5 against Clinton (Rangers). Parmelee hit his 14th home run of the season, while Benson collected two doubles and a stolen base as the Snappers won 8-5 … Jarrod Parker returned to the mound for South Bend (Diamondbacks) after missing his last start. He struck out seven over four innings while allowing one run on four hits against Dayton (Reds), according to the Dayton Daily News, Parker’s fastball touched 97 mph … Cedar Rapids (Angels) and Wisconsin (Mariners) played a 15-inning marathon, won by the TimberRattlers 4-2. Jordan Walden started for the Kernels and pitched five shutout innings, allowing three hits, one walk and fanning four.

What To Watch For Today

The MWL’s schedule maker didn’t do Cedar Rapids and Wisconsin any favors. After their 15-inning game that didn’t end until around 12:30 am EDT last night, the two clubs will be back at the park for a 1:00 EDT game today. Lefthander Edward Paredes (4-7, 4.67) gets the start for Wisconsin … Righthander Dae-Eun Rhee (3-1, 1.16) will go for Peoria against Burlington at 8:00 EDT.
