A Rome Brave takes POTD honors for the second day in a row after lefthander Jeff Locke tossed seven strong innings against Columbus (Rays). Locke held the Catfish to two runs on four hits while walking two and striking out five, improving his mark to 3-7, 4.12.

Locke was given offensive support by right fielder Jason Heyward, who went 3-for-4 with two RBIs, and left fielder Cody Johnson, who went 2-for-3 and hit his 13th home run of the year … Lakewood (Phillies) center fielder Dominic Brown went a combined 4-for-7 with two doubles and an RBI as the BlueClaws swept a doubleheader from Hagerstown (Nationals). Brown raised his numbers to .301/.375/.411 in 316 at-bats for the year … Savannah (Mets) second baseman Greg Veloz went 2-for-4 with his fourth home run of the year, two RBIs and two runs scored as the Sand Gnats beat Charleston (Yankees) 7-0.

Prospect Of The Day

Beloit (Twins) third baseman Deibinson Romero went 3-for-4 with a double and a home run in the Snappers’ 7-5 win over Clinton (Rangers). The home run was a two-run shot in the bottom of the fourth that got the Snappers on the board after they had fallen behind 4-0 early and was Romero’s second of the campaign. The 21-year-old Dominican native, who missed all of May and most of June with a left knee injury, is hitting .250/.278/.400 in 100 at-bats for the year.

Lansing (Blue Jays) shortstop Justin Jackson went 2-for-5 with a double, a home run and a stolen base in the Lugnuts’ 9-6 win over South Bend (Diamondbacks). The home run was Jackson’s fourth of the year and first since May 31 … Cedar Rapids (Angels) lefthander Trevor Reckling improved to 6-2 after going seven innings against Quad Cities (Cardinals), allowing three runs on six hits with one walk and seven strikeouts … Burlington (Royals) third baseman Mike Moustakas went 2-for-4 and stole his fifth base of the year.

Cardinals first round pick, Arizona State third baseman Brett Wallace has signed and is heading for Quad Cities, where he’s expected to join the River Bandits tonight as they host Cedar Rapids at 8:00 EDT.
