Low A Dish: Revere, Tejeda Have Big Nights

Ben Revere and Oscar Tejeda are proving arriving late isn’t always a bad thing, Devin Mesoraco went deep for the first time, Jason Heyward keeps hitting, and Cole Rohrbough made his 2008 debut.

Midwest League

Prospect Of The Day

This may sound like a broken record, but Ben Revere had another three hits yesterday, his sixth straight multi-hit game. The Beloit (Twins) center fielder went 3-for-4 with a double and a pair of RBIs as the Snappers overcame a late 5-2 deficit to knock off first-place Clinton (Rangers) 6-5. Revere’s RBIs came on a groundout in the third and a two-out single in the eighth that made the score 5-3. The only blight on Revere’s night was some misadventures on the bases, as he was doubled off 2nd on a fly ball in the sixth and was caught stealing 2nd in the eighth after his RBI single. Revere’s line now stands at .432/.483/.568 after 81 at-bats.

Prospect Nuggets

Dayton (Reds) catcher Devin Mesoraco hit his first home run of the season, the second of his pro career, in the Dragons’ 5-1 win over Lansing (Blue Jays) … Clinton center fielder Engel Beltre had a long night. He went 0-for-6 with two strikeouts … Kane County (Athletics) righthander Craig Italiano (5.0 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 5 BB, 5 SO) improved to 6-0. Italiano hasn’t allowed an earned run since April 21, a span of five starts … West Michigan (Tigers) righthander Brandon Hamilton’s (4.0 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 0 SO) second start didn’t go as well as his first. After pitching four no-hit innings against Fort Wayne (Padres) last week, Hamilton was greeted rudely by South Bend (Diamondbacks) last night. He gave up a two-run home run in the first inning to South Bend’s Sean Coughlin, then a solo shot in the fourth to Chance Wheeless. He took the loss and fell to 0-1 … Great Lakes (Dodgers) left fielder Andrew Lambo went 2-for-4 with an RBI against Fort Wayne … Cedar Rapids (Angels) lefthander Mike Anton pitched a two-hit shutout against Wisconsin (Mariners).

What To Watch For Today

Righthander Jarrod Parker will take the hill for South Bend against West Michigan (6:30 EDT) … Burlington (Royals) righthander Edward Cegarra will start the second game of the doubleheader between the Bees and Kane County.

South Atlantic League

Prospect Of The Day

Shortstop Oscar Tejeda got off to a decent start after joining Greenville (Red Sox) on April 23. He went 2-for-3 in his first game and opened on a six-game hitting streak, but he fell into a 1-for-17 skid before busting out last night by going 3-for-4 with a double against Savannah (Mets) as the Drive won 7-5 to complete a four-game sweep. Tejeda hit .298/.354/.397 in the Gulf Coast and New York-Penn leagues in 2007, but began the 2008 campaign in extended spring training as he recovered from a staph infection in his right (throwing) arm. His 2008 line stands at .244/.261/.289 after 45 at-bats.

Prospect Nuggets

West Virginia (Brewers) right fielder Caleb Gindl went 3-for-4 against Lakewood (Phillies) … Lakewood shortstop Freddy Galvis went 2-for-4 with an RBI … Rome (Braves) right fielder Jason Heyward went 2-for-5 with an RBI against Hickory (Pirates), extending his hitting streak to 11 games … Braves lefthander Cole Rohrbough made his 2008 debut in impressive fashion. After coming out of the bullpen in the sixth, Rohrbaugh finished the game, tossing four shutout innings, allowing three hits, no walks, and striking out six.

What To Watch For Today

Fresh off taking three of four in Charleston, Asheville (Rockies) returns home to face Rome (7:05 EDT) … Meanwhile, Charleston (Yankees) travels to Greenville (Red Sox). The Drive have been the SAL’s best road team, with a mark of 17-6 away from home, but they’ve struggled at their own park, West End Field, to the tune of a 9-13 record.
