Low A Dish: Naylor Grounds Shorebirds

Drew Naylor dominated Delmarva, Andrew Lambo did a number on West Michigan, and Madison Bumgarner couldn’t go forever without giving up a long ball.

South Atlantic League

Prospect Of The Day

Lakewood (Phillies) righthander Drew Naylor threw his second complete game and had his third double-digit strikeout game last night against Delmarva (Orioles). Naylor went the distance allowing one run on five hits, with one walk and a season-high 13 strikeouts. The ball rarely left the infield as Naylor induced 12 groundouts to go with the punch outs.  He began the night by striking out the side in the top of the first and carried a shutout into the ninth before losing it on a single, a double and an RBI groundout.  Prior to that inning, Naylor never allowed the Shorebirds to get multiple men on base in the same inning and no baserunner had gotten past second. Naylor’s 91 strikeouts on the season leads the SAL and is second in the minors.

Prospect Nuggets

After not allowing a single home run through his first 10 starts, Augusta (Giants) lefthander Madison Bumgarner gave up two last night in Greenville (Red Sox). He ended up going six innings, allowing only those two runs, with six hits, one walk and five strikeouts. He received no decision in a 6-4 Greenville win … Greenville right fielder Ryan Kalish had two hits off Bumgarner and finished the night 3-for-4 … Lexington (Astros) left fielder Collin DeLome went 3-for-3 with a stolen base in a 5-4 loss to Greensboro (Marlins) … Hagerstown (Nationals) third baseman Stephen King went 3-for-5 with a home run, his third, and two RBIs in a 10-6 loss to Lake County (Indians), raising his line to .361/.415/.546 in 119 at-bats.

Prospect Nuggets

One of Lambo’s victims was West Michigan righthander Brandon Hamilton, who came out of the bullpen in the fourth and proceeded to give up six runs (three earned) on seven hits over three innings of work. He walked three and struck out one. Hamilton took the loss and fell to 0-4 … Beloit (Twins) right fielder Chris Parmelee hit two home runs against Kane County (Athletics).
