Low A Dish: MWL Hasn’t Fazed Hunt

Thursday’s action was dominated by pitching. Felix Doubrount topped Cole Rohrbough, while Shooter Hunt has kept mowing down opposing hitters since arriving in Beloit.

South Atlantic League

Prospect Of The Day

Greenville (Red Sox) lefthander Felix Doubront was the best of the bunch on the Sally League side. Doubront outdueled Rome’s (Braves) Cole Rohrbough in working six shutout innings, allowing just two hits, no walks and striking out eight as the Drive posted a 3-0 win. This was the fourth straight start in which Doubront allowed two runs or fewer, and he picked up his SAL-leading 12th win of the year, putting his mark at 12-6, 3.22.

Prospect Nuggets

Rohrbough wasn’t bad himself. The Rome lefthander struck out 11 over six innings, but did give up three runs on five hits along the way. He took the loss and fell to 2-4, 5.72 … Columbus (Rays) righthander Alex Cobb fanned nine in 5 2/3 innings against Augusta (Giants). He gave up one run on three hits, but didn’t figure in the decision … The Columbus-Augusta game turned out to be the game of the night. Augusta broke a 1-1 tie with four runs in the top of the 11th, only to see Columbus come back and win it 6-5 with the game ending on a walk-off three-run home run by Catfish third baseman Greg Sexton … Lexington (Astros) catcher Max Sapp was one of the few hitters to post a noteworthy performance. Sapp went 3-for-4 with a double and his fourth home run in a 12-4 win over Hagerstown (Nationals).

What To Watch For Today

Asheville (Rockies) and Charleston (Yankees) were rained out yesterday, so they’ll play a doubleheader today starting at 5:05 EDT.

Midwest League

Prospect Of The Day

Beloit (Twins) righthander Shooter Hunt hasn’t dissappointed since Minnesota made him the draft’s 31st overall pick. He struck out 34 in 19 innings in the Rookie-level Appachian League and hasn’t slowed down since being called up to Beloit. He fanned nine in five innings in his Beloit debut last Saturday, and he duplicated that performance last night against Great Lakes (Dodgers). Hunt again struck out nine in five innings while giving up just one run on two hits, the lone negative being the five walks he handed out. He didn’t figure in the decision though, as Beloit went on to win 3-2 in 11 innings.

Prospect Nuggets

Clinton (Rangers) righthander Michael Main posted his first win in four starts for the LumberKings after going six innings and allowing only one run on three hits against South Bend (Diamondbacks). He struck out four and walked none … Cardinals supplemental first rounder Lance Lynn was solid in his debut for Quad Cities. The righthander from Ole Miss worked five innings and gave up one run on five hits against West Michigan (Tigers) … Lansing (Blue Jays) first baseman David Cooper went 3-for-4 with a double against Wisconsin (Mariners), putting his line at .370/.414/.556 in 81 at-bats for the Lugnuts.

What To Watch For Today

Burlington (Royals) moved into first place in the MWL West with last night’s win over Dayton (Reds). The Bees will try to keep rolling tonight as they send lefthander Danny Duffy (6-4, 2.73) to the mound against Fort Wayne (Padres) at 8:00 EDT.
